If you'd like to direct a domain name that you have to some other domain or subdomain, the best way to do that would be to use a CNAME record. By creating such a record, the domain being redirected loses all of its records (A, MX, and so forth) and instead, it takes the A record of the domain address it is forwarded to. By doing this, if you use a web design service by some provider that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain and not only will it be forwarded to the site that you've created, but it'll also appear in the web browser address bar at all times. Other possible uses of a CNAME record are to forward all the targeted traffic from different subdomains to their main domain, or to use the webmail service of your webhosting company by using webmail.your-doman.com, for example. The latter will work only by creating a CNAME record for a subdomain simply because this type of a record set up for the main domain address makes it impossible to use e-mail addresses.

CNAME Records in Shared Web Hosting

Creating a CNAME record with our Linux shared web hosting is quite easy. Our in-house built Hepsia CP includes a section dedicated to the DNS records of your domains, so you can create a new CNAME record for any domain or subdomain hosted within your account in just a few easy steps. There is also a video tutorial inside the same section in which you can see the process first-hand. This feature offers you various options - if you set up a company site on our end, as an illustration, the staff can use their emails with the company domain address, not with the address of our mail server. If you wish to create a website by using a different company which offers online web design services, you can easily forward a domain address hosted here and use it for the website. Last, but not least, if you have an online store and you have a billing system for http://your-domain.com and/or an SSL certificate, you can create a CNAME record for the www subdomain and point it to the main domain address, so all your customers will be forwarded to a secure URL.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

Managing DNS records usually seems a difficult task to those with less experience, but the Hepsia hosting CP, which comes with every Linux semi-dedicated service which we offer, is extremely simple to use. If you want to set up a CNAME record for any purpose, all you will need to do will be to choose the domain address or subdomain that you need, pick the type of record, which will be CNAME in this case, then type in the value i.e. the domain name or subdomain you are forwarding to. The procedure is quite easy and you can create the record in the DNS Records section of the CP. Within the hour the new record is going to be 100 % active and within a few hours it's going to propagate worldwide. If you aren't sure what you have to do, we have prepared an in depth help article and a short video tutorial regarding how to go about creating a CNAME record and they're both located within that very same section of Hepsia. Needless to say, you can also get in touch with us for help at any moment.
